Sunset (A ficlet in 200 words)
Duo tucked his windblown hair behind an ear and squinted against the pastel hued light painting the late afternoon sky. Soft sighs mingled with the percussion of breaking waves. He shivered. What sun warmth he absorbed was immediately snatched away by the coastal breezes.
"Leaving your hair down in this wind will only invite a painful brushing later." Startled, Duo turned quickly to see deep blue eyes crinkled in a smile. It was a smile, he mused, reserved only for him. Warmth not attributable to the sun filled his heart.
"For me or for you?" Duo faced the sea again. Further out, a pair of seagulls fought the gusts to hover over the surface of the water.
He chuckled and knelt down in the sand behind his partner. "Penny for your thoughts?" Heero's nimble fingers combed through long brown hair before scooping up handfuls to hold it in place against the wind.
Duo closed his eyes and leaned backwards into body warmth. "Peace feels..." he sighed deeply, "good."
A strong arm slid comfortably around Duo's shoulders and pulled him closer. "Yes, peace feels very good." They sat in silence as the last sliver of sun sank below the watery horizon.
