Okay, time for the warnings. All there is, is that the characters are not mine (pity that it is) and so it isn't really possible for you to steal anything from me. Anyways, enjoy and please don't be too mad with me, it was one of my first attempts!
Time For You
He was in the process of watching his lover play like a child on any available equipment at the park. Of course, he wouldn't have called Duo his lover to anyone, especially Duo, but it sounded good. So the title stuck. Besides, it wouldn't sound good for Heero 'Perfect Soldier' Yuy to be calling anybody his lover. He didn't have any time for that kind of thing anyways. During the period of contemplation, Heero failed to note that the object of his thoughts was on his way over to him. He was surprised when the book he was suppose to be reading was snatched out of his hands by Duo. He mock scowled at the braided pilot although he really didn't mind much. He watched as Duo scanned a page here and there and took notice of how a line would appear every now and then between the violet eyes. That was one out of the many things that Heero had come to call cute. "Ya know Heero, I don't know how you can actually enjoy reading this stuff. Its all...technical. You need to relax a bit. Why don't you join me for dinner tonight." Duo handed the book back before sprawling himself on the bench next to Heero, slinging an arm behind the Wing pilot. "I don't have the time to be going out and having dinner when I can just fix something at the house." Heero took the book gratefully and flipped back to the page that he had pretended to be reading. He had to have had a reason to come with Duo to the park in the first place and what better to be getting some fresh air when catching up on his studies. Doctor J had the habit of sending books to keep Heero updated on all the recent activities. Heero already had about five of them stacked on his desk at the house. Ones that still haven't been read. Duo noticed the lack of defense for the book but decided to leave that alone. He was obviously close to what he wanted. He snatched the book out of Heero's hand again before laying it at their feet. Before Heero had the chance to bend over and pick the book back up Duo climbed into the Wing pilots lap, laying over it dramatically. He then put on his best puppy dog eyes and added a little whimper before attaching his hands to the front of Heero's shirt. He couldn't hide it this time. Heero's cheeks were colored a cherry red while he glared down at the long haired baka in his lap. He growled a bit before tugging at the hands stuck to his shirt. He then let out a sigh and slumped in defeat. "Fine. What's for dinner?" Duo grinned from ear to ear. He managed to wrap his arms around Heero's neck before he was pushed from his comfortable seat onto the hard ground. Despite the hard drop from Heero's lap to the unforgiving surface, Duo continued to grin while he answered Heero's question. "Since this outing is all for you, I'll let you decide." Duo then got up and started brushing the seat of his pants off. Heero had his mouth open and ready to reply when his eyes caught the movement of the Deathscythe pilots hands motion. Heero couldn't help but think that he would like to be helping Duo with his task before he realized that Duo had finished and was watching him curiously. Heero shut his mouth after quickly checking to make sure he hadn't drooled while staring at Duo's backside. "I'll have to think of something." Heero leaned over to grab for his book and took the time to look at his watch as well. "It's four in the afternoon. If you can give me two hours to find a place, I can notify you of my choice and since I don't want to be leaving any later then seven that would give you at least an hour to get prepared. Is that fine for you?" He dusted the dirt off of his book before looking up at the baffled expression on Duo's face. "Geese man, you make it sound like a mission briefing and all. Yeah, that's fine with me." Duo thrusts his hand out towards Heero for a handshake. "It's a date then. I'll see you sometime after six okay?" Heero takes the offered hand as his thoughts circle around Duo's words. A date. A date with Duo none the less. He forgets to say bye as Duo goes running off in the direction of the house and continues to sit on the bench. A date with Duo. Heero's face becomes blank as realization dawns on him and then he gets up and runs in the direction that Duo had taken off in. He did only have two hours to find a suitable place to eat, right?
Heero closed the door behind him. He had just gotten back from telling Duo about the place he had chosen. Duo hadn't been too thrilled about the fact that it was a formal type place, but he accepted without too much convincing. Heero's choice had been a little French diner called Cafe' de France. From what he had heard, they had a good salmon and an even better lobster. Not to mention that some of the wines they had are the best. Maybe it was rumor but he was willing to try it out. Heero goes over to his closet to get out some slacks when he noticed his hands were slightly shaking. "What's the matter with me. This is only a casual dinner with Maxwell. Nothing special." Heero rolled his eyes and then took his pants over to his bed where he slumped down on the edge. "Who am I kidding. I get the perfect chance to be with Duo and I start getting paranoid. Just great. I can handle a mission where you face down guns but I can't handle a simple date with Duo Maxwell." Heero looks over at the clock on his night stand and then stands up again. "I already started this, I might as well finish it." Heero goes over to his closet once more and grabs a shirt before heading to the bathroom to get ready. He had only forty-five minutes to get ready. He didn't want to be late for his first date.
Duo on the other hand, was completely calm. He had nothing against formal dining and had actually expected something like that but he was hoping for something more casual for the first date. He had been waiting for a time when he could back Heero into going out with him. He just hadn't expected for it to be that easy. Duo just shrugged and continued to pull a few pieces of clothing from his own closet. That was one of the things that he liked about the new safe house they were at. They each had their own rooms, not to mention their own bathrooms. That was a miracle in itself. At least he didn't have to hear the others complaining about him taking up all the hot water. Duo shrugged once more as he gathered his black slacks and a amethyst button-down shirt together and headed for the bathroom. He couldn't wait until seven. He just could stop grinning.
Seven o'clock found Heero at the front door waiting for his date. His date. Heero liked the sound of that and continued running it around in his head. Would Duo object to being called that? Or would he accept that? What else would he accept? His thoughts were cut short when he noticed that someone had stopped in front of him. Then his jaw just dropped and every thing flew out of his head. Duo had been getting butterflies as seven o'clock had approached. Once he had even thought himself overdressed and he was relieved once he saw that Heero's had been wearing pretty mush the same as him except that Heero's shirt was navy blue. Just the right color to bring out his eyes. And he sure did like his eyes. Duo's small smirk grew larger as he realized that Heero was still staring at him. Surely Heero wasn't that surprised with his appearance. He waved a hand in front of Heero's face and wasn't surprised when Heero became instantly alert. "I'm assuming that was your way of telling me I look good?" Duo winked slyly at him before moving around him to the door and opening it. "I thought I was suppose to open the door?" Heero mentally smacked himself when he realized what he was actually saying. Surely he could have said something more intelligent then that. His face was tinted with a light pink when he realized that Duo was laughing at him. "You can open the door next time Romeo, right now I just want to go an eat!" With that said, Duo went running out the door towards the car and with keys in hand Heero followed after closing and locking the door behind him.
It was two and a half hours later and they were a hundred fifty lighter in the pocket as the two gundam pilots walked downed the empty sidewalk. The place was unusually quiet for only 9:30 but they didn't mind much. "Man, that lobster was good. I can't remember the last time I had lobster. I remember this one place though, I think it was somewhere in California. It had this wonderful shrimp. But this place, man, I wouldn't mind coming here again. The prices wasn't too bad for it either. We got a good deal on this meal." Duo finished his talk with a pat on his full stomach and then grinned over at Heero. "What did you think about dinner Heero?" "It was good. I've had better but it was a lot more expensive then this place as well. Overall a good deal. I'm glad you enjoyed it though." Heero gave off one of his rare half smiles as he recalled how Duo had enthusiastically inhaled the lobster. // Duo continued to crack various points in the lobsters shell before pulling little pieces of meat out. Despite how messy Heero knew crabs were, he was surprised to note that Duo kept the squirting from the lobster to a minimum while still eating quite fast. Heero would take bites here and there from his salmon but for the most part just sat and listened to Duo chatter the whole time. Of course, neither one of them had a problem with that and so that's how it had been through the entirety of the meal. Duo talking about anything and everything while Heero listened.// "You know what, I still have a little room left. How about ice cream, my treat." Duo gave Heero a sidelong glance before turning his gaze to the stars. "Fine by me. It's a pretty nice night out tonight and I have no reason to return to the house any time soon. Might as well enjoy the time we have while we have it I guess." Duo gaped at Heero for a few minutes before returning his gaze to where he was walking. "Pretty long speech there buddy. So, putting off the poor books again I see?" Heero quickly looked over to Duo, silently cursing himself for even bringing up the books earlier that day. He hadn't thought that Duo would remember the fact that his books were the reason for going to the park with Duo in the first place. Duo gave a little chuckle before grabbing Heero's hand and tugging him forward a bit. "I was just messing with ya. Come on, I want some ice cream!" With that, Heero and Duo go off running in the direction of the nearest ice cream shop.
Another half an hour later found them comfortably sitting on the same park bench that they were at earlier that day. Duo sat at one end with one arm over the back of the bench while eating a chocolate ice cream cone while Heero was at the other end eating a vanilla ice cream cone. Heero had the hardest time keeping himself from watching as Duo would lick at his ice cream. He was glad when Duo had finally gotten to the cone, his own cone temporarily forgotten until then. Duo kept silent while Heero finished off his treat and then they relaxed in compatible silence. It was Heero who surprisingly broke the silent first. "I had a nice night tonight. I have to thank you for that." He took that moment to throw a cautious look over at Duo to make sure that he didn't say the wrong thing. Duo just gave a little smirk before replying. "Just remember to start making more time for the little things that you are letting pass by. Sometimes its needed in our lives, ya know. Just to be able to get out and at least act normal always works for me." "What other little things would you be implying?" Heero turned himself slightly and brought one knee up on to the bench, leaning one side against the back and giving his full attention to Duo. "Well, like tonight. Just take the time to get dressed up to have an everyday meal. Go dancing once or twice, watch a few movies at the theaters. Go to a park...just little things." The last was mentioned with a wave of a hand from Duo indicating the park they were sitting in. Heero took a deep breath. He decided that if he was going to enjoy the small things, he wanted to be able to enjoy them with someone else as well. It's time to confess and if he doesn't like what I have to say then he doesn't have to talk to me again. That won't stop me from watching out for him though.... "Going out and trying to have fun wasn't my purpose for giving in to you. I wouldn't have gone if you hadn't been the one to invite me. I would have never of thought to go out for dinner and I might not do it again in the future..." Heero looked down at the hands that were folded over his lap, the dark of the night efficiently hiding his blush. "I know. It was kinda obvious how you felt before we went out tonight. How your jaw just hit the floor when you noticed me." Duo let a small smile appear on his lips when Heero's head shot up to lock his eyes with Duo's. "If you knew then why didn't you say anything sooner?" Heero just continued to keep his eyes locked with Duo's. "Selfishness. I wanted you to say it first or at least give me a bold sign that you were interested. You know for yourself that the thought of rejection is hard to overcome." Duo took that moment to lean over and put a small kiss on Heero's lips. "What do you say we go home? It's getting kinda chilly and neither one of use brought a jacket." Duo stood up and stretched but Heero remained in his seat with his eyes still locked on Duo. He was slightly confused but he did know one thing for sure. He was feeling truly happy for once in his life. Heero stood up and stretched as well before wrapping his arm around Duo's waist. "I can make time for the smaller things I guess. I will always have time for you though." Duo smiled and put one of his own arm around Heero in return. He started moving them in the direction of the house before another thought occurred to him. "You know how you asked earlier if my jaw dropping was my way of saying that you looked good?" "Yeah..." Duo looked up curiously at Heero, wandering what he was getting at. "That couldn't have been what I was saying because you look good all the time. I must have been saying that you looked great." Heero smiled down at Duo and tightened his arm around the braided pilot. Duo gave a bright smile before leaning up and kissing Heero once more. Then he sighed and placed his head on Heero's shoulder. He sure was looking forward to go home now.
