Bookshops Are a Must
by MeritJubet

"That woman is staring at us," Heero muttered at Duo, slightly disturbed by the intensity of the woman's gaze. Duo looked up, meeting the woman's eyes, she smiled at him, blushing warmly. He shrugged and shook his head, "Probably just staring at us because we're so handsome." Looking awkward, Heero shifted. "It's just -- " hating himself for even mentioning it, "Does she have to take photos?" He still disliked having his photo taken, what if someone recognised him when he was on a mission for the Preventers?

"She couldn't be a spy," Duo murmured, still browsing through the books. He picked one up, opened it up and ignored Heero. the woman crept closer, the red light of her camera flashing furiously.

The hairs on the back of his neck rose. The woman was behind him, probably less than three feet away from him. Heero whirled around, arms taking a defensive position. The woman blinked, shrugging, the camera disappearing some how, behind her back.

"Oh, hello!" She gushed, leaning in. "I know this is going to sound silly, but you two remind me of my favourite characters from this anime show. I'm Sharon!"

Slowly nodding, Heero nudged Duo, hard. An angry expression on his face, Duo looked up from his book. "What?" He snapped. Heero gestured to the woman with a slight movement of his head. Duo faced her. "Hello," he said, "I'm sorry about Heero here, but he suffers brain farts."

"Duo! I do not!" Heero replied.

"Erghhh!" The woman gurgled, staggering back a step. "Your names!" She gasped, eyes flickering between Heero and Duo. "Your names are Heero and Duo?" She grasped desperately at Heero's shirt. To Heero's consternation, Duo just looked amused, rather than annoyed at the womanhandling of his partner.

"Yeah, not the most common, but we're unique!" Duo exclaimed proudly.

A glorious smile of happiness crossed the Sharon's face. "You two -- you're together! At a bookshop!"

"That's right. We're together," Duo said, smiling easily.

Sharon smiled brightly, "That's the most wonderful, brilliant news! I have to tell everyone on LJ." She paused. "I have pictures! Many many pictures!"

Heero nodded, and tried to tug Duo backwards. Duo glared at him and didn't move. "Interesting," he murmured.

There was more nodding from Sharon. Then... "Hey," she said and Heero did not like her tone at all. "What are doing in less than two weeks?"

Heero was alarmed when Duo shrugged, "Nothing."

"Good! Because, if you want, there's this gathering of people, an event, and they would be very pleased to meet you. It's called Yaoi-con." Sharon smiled warmly at them.

"We'd love to go!" Duo agreed. Heero decided to pack his gun.
