Ice-Cream
by Arithion/Arithkenshin

Duo threw himself on his bed before he realised he was squashing something. It felt soft, so he'd obviously not broken it, but still. Sitting up, he twisted around eyes seeking out the item. His face lit up and he gathered the garment in his arms with an almost childish squeal of joy. "Yes!" He jumped off the bed to run to his door, huge grin on his face.

Heero kept his eyes focused on the book he was reading, even though he knew Duo was standing, watching him. Finally, he decided to look up. "Yes?"

"Thanks, buddy!" Duo almost glowed, gesturing to the black and white garment clutched tightly in his arms. "My other's almost worn out!"

"See if it fits?" Heero suggested.

"Oh, it'll fit" Duo exclaimed, full of confidence. "You know what fits me, Heero." He turned and closed his bedroom door behind him, humming a tune under his breath, and never saw the small smile that appeared on Heero's face.

Duo juggled the mail with the two bags he was carrying in the house. Unceremoniously plopping those two bags inside the front door, he ripped open the curious envelope addressed to him, so obviously not containing a bill, and whooped with delight at what he found in there. "Shit, yeah!"

Just then, Heero walked out of the kitchen. "Good news?"

"You know it!" Duo walked over, slung an arm around Heero's shoulder, and ruffled his hair. "Basketball final tickets! You're amazing Heero!" He pulled away, already having forgotten the bags, taking the steps two at a time. "I have to ring Quatre."

Duo paused at the top of the landing and looked back down at Heero. "Friday night, right?" Heero nodded, already making his way to the living room. "Great! It's a date." Duo definitely missed the small, but satisfied grin on Heero's face.

The basketball match had been amazing. At least, that's what Duo thought. He didn't shut up the entire time. Heero didn't think anyone around them had actually managed to hear the commentator even once. No one had said anything though, not once Duo was looking the other way. Heero might not technically threaten people anymore, but his glare was enough to shut most people up.

"What a game. Heero, did you enjoy it?" Duo said breathlessly as they left the stadium.

Heero nodded, and then thought twice. "Yes." He added.

"Ice cream."

"What?"

"After a game," Duo clucked his tongue impatiently, as if it should be common knowledge for everyone in the known universe. "We should go eat ice cream." Duo grabbed Heero's hand and dragged him in the direction of his favourite ice-cream parlour.

So, he didn't see Heero grin.

"Mmmm," Duo licked his ice-cream happily. "Double chocolate fudge. An absolutely perfect ending to a perfect night." Smile huge, Duo elbowed Heero playfully. "Don't you think, Heero?"

Liking his own vanilla ice-cream, Heero looked thoughtful for a moment. "Duo, I..."

"I know, you enjoyed yourself. You're the best friend I have." Duo stopped long enough to take another lick. "I never have more fun with anyone else."

"Duo, I..."

"Really, I hope we do more things like this. I usually drag you..." Heero's finger touching his lips in a silencing motion made Duo's eyes go wide, almost trying to seek out enemies he knew really couldn't be there anymore.

"Duo," Heero finally lost patience. "You have ice-cream on your face."

Duo blushed slightly, and then slightly more as Heero bent close, and kissed the chocolate off the corner of his lip. "It's gone now." Heero straightened, with a small smile.

"Oh, Heero," Duo blushed even darker, and finally understood.
