Epiphany in Baritone by Okaasan
His voice may have surprised me at first because he looked so young. Or maybe it was because he didn't look like a typical tough guy even though he had a gun trained on me. Later, I was always amused to see Duo's voice shock the hell out of the few people who were unfortunate enough to assume he was female, just because of his hair. But I don't think I'd actually consciously thought about the deepness of Duo's voice until I heard him singing. It was an old song, one of those Christmas songs that play on a never-ending loop emanating from every store and radio until you think you'll go mad. Funny, but I really can't recall what song it was but I recognized it enough to know that Duo sang it well. Not that he would be winning many awards, but he could hold a tune and something about his singing voice made you want to hear more. Then he sang the chorus and he hit a note so perfectly, a note so low I didn't think he'd be able to hit it, and I felt...well, I'm not sure what I felt. But it was as if that note resonated within me. I stopped what I was doing just to wait for him to sing the chorus again, so I could hear that note again. And all I could do was to sit there, stunned, as I realized that the only word that could adequately describe him was something I hadn't even dared to think until then.
