Naming Clouds by nomorespandex
This afternoon I went to the park again. The weather was cooler, and there were clouds in the atmosphere, so I wore my hooded sweatshirt. I rode only for an hour before I stopped at the hill near the western entrance. I walked my bike to the top of the hill, and found a place where I could sit and see the reservoir that is farther along the colony curve. I opened my book into my lap, but I didn't read. The sun had come in through the colony walls and it felt so warm across my shoulders that I set my book aside, fell back in the grass, and let my imagination wander. I could say that I spent all day naming clouds, but all I really did was think of Duo. I know everyone thinks his sense of humor has rubbed off on me... In some ways it has, but all I really want is to make him smile as often as I can. His mouth is so wide; it's built for smiling. With the reservoir fresh in my mind, I thought about sailing with him. When I took those photographs of him on Earth, he had such an intense look of concentration most of the time, but when the boat picked up speed he would laugh. I wish I could have heard him then, but he was too far away and the spray of the water was too loud. Duo's laugh is even better than his smile. He laughs with his entire body, and his eyes light up in a way like no one else I have ever seen. I wish he had been with me today. I could have pointed out a cloud formation that I know would have left him breathless. I wanted him there, lying close beside me, so that I could have leaned over to watch his eyes open as his laughter faded. I wanted a moment where I could have had a chance to kiss him.
